Timeless Beauty on the Gulf Coast - The Story of Schooner Corsair
|

Captain Mike Broussard began construction of the
Corsair in 1976. His idea was to model her after the famous "White
Winged Queens", the traditional shrimp and oyster schooners of Biloxi, Mississippi. The
Corsair began
operating in 1978 as a commercial shrimp boat, snapper boat, and sailing charter.
The Corsair has served as a
sail-training vessel with the Newport, Rhode Island International School of Yacht Restoration. The Corsair
also appeared in the period film "Interview with a Vampire" and was featured in the first
television commercial for the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi. This advertising campaign included the casino's
Grand Opening coverage on "Good Morning America", where viewers were treated to an opening
scene that included the Corsair under full sails against the bright blue Biloxi skyline. The Corsair has also won numerous awards at wooden boat festivals and sailing yacht races in the course of her
career.
The Corsair and her captain contributed greatly to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. Equivalent in
cargo-hauling capacity to that of a semi-truck trailer, the Corsair arrived fully loaded at "Ground
Zero" in Pass Christian, Mississippi only four days after the hurricane made landfall. With most roads
into the storm-ravaged city of Pass Christian still blocked off, the residents of Josephine, Alabama
gathered and donated this initial load of rescue supplies via water transport aboard the Corsair. Captain Mike and a crew of four brave volunteers made the voyage through many miles
of debris-filled waters to deliver the much needed supplies of water, food, and medicine, along with a
reason for hope and a renewed faith in humanity.
Now, the Corsair resides on the Gulf Coast of Alabama, where it is available for your pleasure as
a premiere luxury boat charter. Affordable, private yacht charters aboard the Corsair will make for wonderful memories of your vacation on the Alabama Gulf Coast!
